YouTube’s Creative Commons Addition

YouTube Video EditorA couple of weeks ago, YouTube launched Creative Commons content for its video editor. The video editor allows you to enhance your uploaded videos, by creating video mashups, editing clips, and now, adding creative commons content.

What is Creative Commons?

Creative Commons gives creators a simple, standardized way to keep their copyright while allowing certain uses of their work — “a “some rights reserved” approach to copyright”. That means, decent quality media that you can use free of charge with proper attribution, within the boundaries set forth by the copyright holder. It really embraces the social sharing aspect of the online universe, while also respecting the talents of the individuals who create the media by giving them their due credit.

What Can You Do with Creative Commons?
The Creative Commons service allows you to edit together clips and add or change the backgroudn music using their AudioSwap library of licensed songs. While the features are pretty basic, they may upgrade in the future and provide content that you otherwise may not legally have access to. It’s a great way to use others’ creative genius to help out your own.
