Using Twitter at an Event

Event TweetsAre you thinking about attending a conference or going to an event that you think your Twitter followers would be interested in? Tweeting about the event is a great idea for keeping people informed and for sparking conversation.
Here are some tips to make your event tweeting successful.

Before You Go
Before you even head to your event, prepare yourself and your followers by picking a unique hashtag and start using it before the event to help build buzz and get people used to it. Let them know you’ll be there and tweeting about the goings on.

While You’re There
While you’re at the event, don’t just tweet sporadically. Check in often so people expect it. Tweet the line-up of speakers you’ll be listening to. Tweet the awesome things that they say. Tweet the questions that the audience asks. Tweet links to the event speaker you’re listening to or the live feed. Tweet about all the cool stuff you’re seeing. Give your followers a lot. They expect it.

After The Event
Save all your tweets from the conference with a service like Twapper Keeper. It’s free and it archives tweets with a specific hashtag. You’ll want to have this set up before you go.

There are lots of examples of great event tweeting along the Oregon Trail. One of our favorites? The Gresham City Council tweets all of their council meetings. Pretty cool stuff.
